Woke up late due to the pubbing session. Proceeded straight for lunch and had yet another 6 meal course. Big fish big chicken yet again and it was yet another enjoyable meal.
Went to a travel agency to get our flight tickets to Guilin and found out that they actually had a 70% discount for the flight on the next day. How the system here work is that they will sell tickets at 90% discount first, once those tickets are all sold out, the next batch of tickets will then be sold at 80% discount and so on. And a really cold joke we heard from the receptionist as she was talking to her Chinese colleague.
‘Why didn’t the duck eat the fish?’
‘Cause it is a Donald duck!”
BRRrrrrr.
Had a KFC for a sort of afternoon tea and then a small walkabout at Walmart. Not too long after, we’ve had yet another sumptuous dinner. This time round, the highlight of the meal was not regarding the number of dishes that was on our table. The first dish of the dinner was a stunning one.
All of us had our jaws dropped as the dish was brought onto our table. A plate of black insects with wings and legs. They are the legendary sea cockroaches! We didn’t seem like we got a choice to skip this as the rest of the table were happily peeling of the wings and putting the cockroaches into their mouths as if they were enjoying some snacks.
Show song’s cockroach video.
And so the 3 of us reluctantly ‘enjoyed’ one cockroach each. The taste isn’t that bad and it actually feels like eating a prawn together with its shell, as the shell of the cockroach was not peeled off before putting into our mouths. 1 try of this fearful insect was definitely sufficient as we didn’t really want to try for another one!
The char siew cum shao rou was the best ive ever eaten. Char Siew on the inside with the crispy shao rou’s skin on the outside, the tenderness and taste of this exquisite piece of meat was fantastic. The prawns were really really big. And I mean really really big. Tch even mistakened it for a lobster and the lady, song’s aunt’s friends, even laughed off tch’s comments and corrected him that it is actually a prawn! One usually pluck of the shell of one prawn and then eat it. But this prawn is so big that it had to be cut into 2 halves first and one half is sufficient for one person..
All of us were so full by the end of the meal but we were still forced to finish the food. How often can you be forced to eat such big prawns like this? Under usual circumstances, we would usually say force me por favor. But this time round, we’ve had so much expensive dishes that we were really full and I must say we couldn’t really taste the full glory of these seafood.
A mahjong session was up next. But no, we were not the ones playing. However, we were still involved in it as spectators none the less! This is because they have a special playing style such that even the spectators can have fun and join in the game. It is called ‘mai ma’ or buy horse you can call it. A little hard for me to explain the game here. Basically, we would take a few tiles off the game and each tile represents a number. At the end of the game, we would see how many tiles we had taken matches the number of the winner and that would be the amount we would win. This simple game actually made Tch and I thought through the entire probability of winning the game only to realize that the expected winnings of the game in a long run would be $0!
And so we had an exciting night playing this buy horse game as the stakes cwould actually be raised at times if the player playing is making his/her tiles ‘big’…
