Had a typical breakfast consisting of porridge with fried noodles. The porridge was smooth and the fish and frog was fresh and tender to go with.
Arrived at Tung Chung to take the Bus to Ngong Ping only to realize that the bus there costs HKD27 instead of the HKD17 on weekdays. Not quite worth it but we’ve got no choice..! The Tian Tan Buddha is a big statue up the hills and it was a majestic scene. Devoted Buddhists from China and Hong Kong go there often to offer their prayers and wished for a year of success and wealth. Proceeded to the Po Lin Monastery to continue our prayers and had a vegetarian lunch thereafter.
The newly built Ngong Ping Village is nice but it seems like a CCC, also known as Cash Cow Corner. Beautiful décor and design is a trademark of the region and hence you can guess the prices of the items and food in this region as well.
And now the highlight of the day was the trip back to City Gate Mall at Tung Chung. It is a mall full of ‘Outlets’, the cheaper stuffs of all the branded. So a shopping spree started with tch buying a pair of shoes at timberland, which he later regretted, followed by the rest of us spending money at the Espirit shop.
As all of us were rather hungry at this point in time, we decided to try out Mac’s Ebi burger meal. Nothing too fantastic about this as with any other fast food restaurants.
Had a walk down temple street and there were really lots of local food stalls there! Kind of regretted the Mac dinner which we had as the fragrance of the food at temple street was rather hard to resist… Walked around the night market and did not quite like what was offered due to the large amount of bargaining required because we cudnt speak Cantonese. Did buy ‘long xu tang’ from an old uncle and it tasted good even though it was a little too sticky.
Due to Song’s tired and injured legs, he returned to hostel first whilst tch, kai and I proceeded to ‘mai wen ji mian dian’ for their famous pig feet noodle. At a high price of HKD34 per plate, the amount of pig feet was rather sufficient. Though I must say the quality of the food wasn’t really that value for money..
