After a long night of catching up, we woke up at about 9am and proceeded straight to Wan Chai station for Chin Hong to make his Visa. Happy that we could fit everything into plan, all that was left was just for someone to spoil the day. And yes he did. As we were about to tap out of the station via the octopus, a casual question from Song revealed all our troubles.
‘Did you bring your passport along?’
I don need to tell you the answer, do I? Our plan was totally destroyed. We were afraid that if we were to delay his Visa, he might not be able to get it on time for our trip to China. We just went straight to the China Resource Building where the Visa was to be done. Upon arrival, our worries were confirmed as the passport is essential in making the Visa and tch had to return back to hostel and then to this place again.. and that would take roughly 45 minutes or so!
Left with little or no choice, we went on to have breakfast at the Honolulu Café whilst Chin Hong would rush through the meal and meet us later on. The ‘Gong Zai Mee’, more affectionately known as Maggie mee in layman’s term to us, was rather delicious together with the beef. But the best part of the meal still goes to the legendary egg tart. We braved all fronts and took a daring step to try it despite the ongoing avian flu as it really looked super delicious! And true enough, our bravery was paid off as it is definitely one of the best egg tarts we have ever tried. The egg was smooth and soft whilst the crust was of a perfect crisp. What more can you ask for?
In order to kill time as we await tch’s return, the 3 of us had starbucks coffee as we chilled in a nearby shopping centre. And nightmare struck for the second time in the day. Waited for nearly 2 hours but we didn’t receive tch’s call as discussed beforehand. Worried, we walked to the CRB in a bid to find him…
‘I got lost on the way and I just reached Wan Chai’
That was the answer Song got when he called tch. Puzzled. Stunned. Shocked. Whatever vocabulary you can think of to describe our feeling. Hong Kong is a freaking Megacity with an efficient network of MRT system. Together with a map on his hand and equipped with the necessary linguistic skills to communicate with the locals, how could he get lost for 2 hours?
By the time he was back, it was already 115pm and we had to wait till 2pm before the employees are back from their lunch. The whole process ended at about 3pm. Plans to visit Ocean Park and Stanley market had to be called off and we changed plans..
Shopped around at Causeway Bay, more notably at Jardine’s Bazaar and Times Square. However to our dismay, the stuffs sold here were more high end and we left there empty handed. Probably our biggest takeaway from this place was the famous Wanton Noodle from Chi Ji. A small bowl cost us HKD27 each but it was worth every bit of our money. Fresh shrimps for the wonton and the noodles was great as well. Its no doubt that this is an award winning restaurant.
Took the ferry from Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui and we had a panoramic view of the business district of Hong Kong Island in the night. Filled with bright lights and season greetings from the various companies, it practically lit up the whole area and it was a beautiful city scene.
It was followed by a camwhoring session at Avenue of Stars where the sea breeze was cool and soothing.. woo.. the festive season is here!
Dinner was rather bad. Not in terms of food quality, but rather, it’s the ignorance of the dishes that we ordered. Had some Yunan Ramen which turned our really really Ma La! It was so spicy to the extent that most of us had a bad stomach after that. Nonetheless, we got to know 2 Hongkongers through our stupidity during the ordering of the food in that café due to our bad Cantonese. We chatted with the mother and daughter pair who told us where to search for cheaper food for the next part of our journey as we returned the favour by informing them where to visit for Singapore and Malaysia..
And still the joke of the day still goes to TCH. No doubt.
