Checked out our hotel as we decided to cut costs and stay at somewhere cheaper instead though the facilities we’ve had at Li River Hotel was probably one of the best Ive ever stayed in since the days of backpacking. Got ourselves a room at 90RMB, less than half that of the previous hotel and we were happy with the facilities and condition though we know that we could have got something even cheaper at just 50 RMB.
Lunch and Dinner today was pretty much the same except for the different prices we experienced at different locations. Did a Chinese medical foot massage for 50RMB and the 20% tip we gave to the Chinese ladies didn’t seem enough. It was yet another lesson learnt for us as both Song and I felt that when comparing the finanical condition between us and them, we should have given them more for the hardwork that they have put in for the past one hour.
What went worse happened in the night. Aunties on the streets were selling Liu San Jie tickets for just 50RMB even before bargaining! The official retail price of each Liu San Jie ticket actually costs 188RMB and that is why we felt that the price of 160RMB which we bought at our hotel concierge was rather worth it. Though we had realized our mistake after the purchase, little did we expect that the difference in price can actually be up to 110RMB per head. To all travelers out there, always check out the market rate as even retail prices can be a fake.
I also realized that in China, they not only have foreign tourists. Due to the large Chinese population, they come from all over the country to visit these tourists sites and hence there are even a larger proportion of Chinese tourists. Touts not only target foreigners like us but also the locals who visit their county.
